In order to update your router’s security settings follow these easy steps:

Step1 (Log in to your router)

To log in to your router run Internet Explorer (or your default browser) and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar and hit Enter. To find your IP address in Windows press the windows key and the key “R” at the same time. In the new window, type “cmd” and hit Enter, then type “ipconfig” and hit Enter. Now, under “Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network settings” you should have Default Gateway followed by an array of numbers devided in 4 groups by dots. That is your router’s IP.

Step2 (Login)

After hitting Enter, you will see a login prompt appear on your screen.

To login, use the following username and password in the prompt box.

Step3 (Wireless Settings)

Hide SSID Settings

To hide your router’s SSID, go to Wireless > Wireless Settings. This will pop up a window where you can configure the basic settings for the wireless network. To hide the SSID (Service Set Identification) uncheck the “Enable SSID Broadcast” option. This will hide your wireless network from the clients searching for wireless connections and thereby protect your network from hackers.

To make your wireless network safe, you should select the appropriate security option.

To do so go to  Wireless > Wireless Security.

This router supports 64/128/152-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy), WPA/WPA2, WPA-PSK (Pre-Shared Key)/WPA2-PSK (Pre-Shared Key). Each one is more secure than the previous one listed.

It is recommended to use WPA-PSK/ WPA2-PSK


WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK – It’s the WPA/WPA2 authentication type based on pre-shared passphrase.

Version – you can choose the version of the WPA-PSK security on the drop-down list. The default setting is Automatic, which can select WPA-PSK (Pre-shared key of WPA) or WPA2-PSK (Pre-shared key of WPA) automatically based on the wireless station’s capability and request.

Encryption – You can select either Automatic, TKIP, or AES as the Encryption type. It is recommended to use AES encryption


PSK Passphrase – You can enter a Passphrase between 8 and 63 characters. This is the password you are setting to be able to access your wireless network.

Group Key Update Period – Enter “0” to disable the update.

To save the setting changes you have made to your router, click Save.
